Even so, a switch to MLS seems to be a risky one for a player who had struggled for form in previous seasons.
And Colorado, in particular, are a club who boast a number of options in Wilson’s position, with head coach Anthony Hudson already bringing in Tommy Smith and Kip Colvey after working with the pair as New Zealand boss.
Axel Sjoberg – one of the stars of MLS in 2016 – remains at the Rapids, too, and Kortne Ford is a young talent that Hudson will surely rely on.
The time may be right for Wilson to move on as his contract at Ibrox winds down, but he may not find match time quite as easy as he would hope in Commerce City.
A peripheral role under Pedro Caixinha showed Wilson how painful time out of the first team can be and he surely will not want to experience that again as he approaches his peak years.
Rangers fans would be keen to keep Wilson and a renegotiation on the contract renewal may well suit all parties better than seeing the 26-year-old move on this winter.
