Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react after the club announced that Leighton Clarkson had joined Blackburn on a season-long loan.
What’s the story?
Well, the talented 19-year-old has left Anfield for his first taste of senior football away from Merseyside.
So far in his short career, Clarkson’s only senior action has come in the form of three first-team appearances for the Reds.
One of those, however, came in last season’s Champions League, as the teenager impressively played 90 minutes against FC Midtjylland.
Clarkson also did well over pre-season, notably in the final friendly against Osasuna at Anfield, and has now been rewarded for his efforts.
A loan move to a decent Championship side in Blackburn is a fantastic opportunity for the midfielder to prove himself in the senior game.
Harvey Elliott 2.0?
It makes sense that Liverpool have chosen to send Clarkson to Blackburn.
Tony Mowbray’s side did a fantastic job with Harvey Elliott last term, helping the 18-year-old’s development by handing him 41 Championship appearances.
In those outings, he scored seven goals and provided 11 assists, and is now involved in Jürgen Klopp’s first-team.
Elliott played seven minutes of the 3-0 win over Norwich on Saturday.
Hopefully, we’ll see Clarkson do the same at some point in the near future.
