The Birmingham Mail have reported that Aston Villa teenager Mitch Clark has returned to Bodymoor Heath after suffering a hamstring injury while on loan with League Two side Port Vale.

The 19-year-old has been excellent for Vale this season, making 19 appearances in all competitions for Neil Aspin’s side but he was withdrawn during Saturday’s 1-0 loss to Swindon Town.

The Wales Under-19 international pulled up in the first half and was substituted at half time, in what will come as a bitter blow to Vale’s fight against relegation from the fourth tier.

Clark has returned to Bodymoor Heath to receive treatment on the problem, and is then likely to rejoin his loan side as he continues to show Dean Smith why he deserves a new Villa deal.

His current contract expires at the end of the season, as does his loan spell with Vale. In January, though, Clark could find himself being recalled by Villa if any bigger clubs want to sign the versatile right-back.

Aspin admitted last week to the Stoke Sentinel: “If a club from a higher league comes in for him and the lad wanted to go, and his agent was pushing for him to go, then there would be little we could do.”

Clark has appeared for Villa’s senior team on just one occasion, playing the entire 90 minutes of the club’s 4-1 win over Wigan Athletic at left-back in the Carabao Cup last season.
