Calciomercato have written a detailed article on mistakes made by Massimiliano Allegri at Juventus, where Tottenham were mentioned.
What’s the story?
Well, in addition to highlighting Allegri’s bizarre decision to let Joao Cancelo join Manchester City, Dejan Kulusevski is also named.
Back in January, Juventus allowed the Swede – who they paid €40m (£33m) for – to join Tottenham on an 18-month loan deal.
Spurs are obligated to make the move permanent for £29m when those 18 months are over, so it’s basically a protracted permanent deal.
Now, Calciomercato can’t believe Juventus let Kulusevski leave, given how easily he has adapted to the Premier League – one of the toughest divisions in Europe.
The Italian news outlet highlight how it was an error on Allegri’s behalf, as the 21-year-old is thriving after just months of working under Antonio Conte.
They write: ‘He (Allegri) too can make mistakes and with a certain type of players, the evaluations. The most recent case is undoubtedly that of Dejan Kulusevski, on whom Juventus had placed enormous hopes, snatching him from Inter for around €40m (£33m).
‘In just three months of Conte management, in a much more demanding and competitive league like the Premier, the former Atalanta and Parma has literally flourished again.’
Clearly, Allegri isn’t always the best judge of a player.
Fabio Paratici must find more like Dejan Kulusevski for Tottenham
When Daniel Levy hired Paratici as Tottenham’s new Director of Football in 2021, many expected him to scour the Italian market for gems.
Impressively, the Italian negotiator has done just that, bringing Cristian Romero, Rodrigo Bentancur and Kulusevski to N17.
The trio have made a huge impact at Spurs, despite plenty of uncertainty and difficulty in switching from Nuno Espirito Santo to Conte.
With Tottenham now far more settled, we’re excited to see what Conte and Paratici can come up with in the summer window.
If Spurs can even find one more player as effective as Kulusevski, the 2022/23 campaign could be a special one.
