Micah Richards feels Harry Kane made a ‘mistake’ signing a long-term Tottenham Hotspur contract. He also claims the forward could have been winning titles with Liverpool instead.
Kane has 18 months left on the £200k-a-week deal with Spurs he penned back in 2018. He agreed to extend his stay in north London at the time as chairman Daniel Levy raised their wage limit, per The Guardian. But it has since prevented the England captain from leaving.

Manchester City sought to sign Kane during the summer of 2021 but refused to pay Levy’s asking price. Pep Guardiola confirmed in February, via the Daily Mail, that the Citizens bid four times for the England captain. But they refused to match the £150m figure requested.

Levy was within his rights to hold firm in Tottenham’s valuation with Kane the talisman at the club. The 29-year-old has scored 261 and created 62 goals over 408 appearances across all competitions for Spurs. But his efforts are yet to reward either party with a single title so far.
Since 2018, though, Liverpool have lifted the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup and EFL Cup trophies once. Manchester City have also won the top-flight four times, one FA Cup crown and four EFL Cups. They won the Premier League after failing to sign Kane.

Now, Tottenham are eager to lock Kane down to another contract extension. But their star striker will wait until after the 2022 World Cup to hold negotiations over his future, per the Evening Standard. Spurs do not want him entering next season in the final year of his deal.
Richards brands Kane’s Tottenham contract a ‘mistake’ over titles ‘at Liverpool’
Kane headed off to Qatar to captain England at the World Cup with contract talks firmly at the back of his mind after 12 goals in 15 Premier League games for Tottenham this season.

His exploits have astounded Richards, who feels the forward could have won the titles that his skill deserves elsewhere. Among the teams he lists as options Kane could have joined if he did not sign his long-term Tottenham contract includes Manchester City and Liverpool.
“What more can be said about Captain Fantastic? He’s just absolutely sensational,” wrote Richards in his column for the Daily Mail.
“Signing such a long-term contract at Tottenham was a mistake because he could have been at Liverpool, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain or Bayern Munich winning the trophies his ability deserves.”
