West Ham United had a bid for the West Bromwich Albion defender rejected, according to reports.
According to a report from the Telegraph, West Ham had a £12 million bid for West Brom’s Craig Dawson rejected last night, but it could actually turn out to be a blessing in disguise for the Hammers.
The 28-year-old joined the Baggies from Rochdale in the summer of 2010, and he has proven himself to be a consistent performer ever since then.
Dawson is a solid operator, of that there is no doubt, but West Brom’s asking price of £12 million for his services seems to be rather extortionate, especially when Leicester picked up Jonny Evans for just £3.5 million.

There is also the issue of the West Brom defender’s age. At 28, he is arguably in the prime phase of his career now, but in a few years, he will be on the downward spiral.
West Ham’s player recruitment in recent years has been highly questionable, and this summer will be a vitally important one for Manuel Pellegrini, if he is to guide his side to a successful Premier League campaign this season.
Adding a top class centre-back to his ranks will be of paramount important, and there are plenty of better options out there.
Aston Villa’s James Chester for £10 million, West Brom’s Ahmed Hegazi for the same price or Celtic’s Dedryck Boyata for just £7 million.
Incredibly, the Baggies rate Dawson at £20 million, according to the Telegraph.
Simply put, West Ham fans should not lose any sleep after seeing their club miss out of Dawson for £12 million.
