So, what now Celtic?
The title’s gone, European football is a distant memory and, with only the Scottish Cup to play for, there is very little for Hoops fans to get excited about between now and May.
At least a shiny new signing would have given those increasingly disillusioned Celtic supporters a reason to tune in to what will feel like a never-ending string of dead-rubbers, as their blue-clad rivals from across the city begin the procession to 55.
But just two months after Omar Colley’s agent swung upon the door, claiming Sampdoria were desperate to cash in on their 6ft 3ins centre-half, the shutters have come crashing down again.
Eight weeks ago, Colley was out of favour at the Estadio Luigi Ferraris and seemingly destined for a change of scene. CalcioNews24 even reported that he had been transfer listed after receiving an offer from Celtic – the only club in Britain to make a firm approach for him (SampNews24).

Flash forward to the present day and the much-travelled 28-year-old has forced his way quite brilliantly into the team again with a series of superb defensive performances.
A new contract, until 2025, is a fitting reward.
Meanwhile, back at Parkhead, another long-term injury to Christopher Jullien has left Kristoffer Ajer and the error-riddled, much-maligned Shane Duffy as the only fit, senior, centre-halves on Celtic’s books.
And we didn’t think the mood could get any darker on the green half of Glasgow…
