Liverpool coach Pep Lijnders has confirmed that Jordan Henderson is almost back from injury after being missing for the past few games due to illness.

Speaking to the press via the Liverpool Echo, Jurgen Klopp’s assistant revealed that the 68-cap England international is close to returning to full fitness after being unavailable.

The Anfield captain was missing from Liverpool’s recent trips to Milan and Tottenham, with Henderson listed on the injury list with illness. However, it is not Covid-19 which has kept Virgil van Dijk and Fabinho out over the past week.

The Reds face Leicester City tonight in the quarter-final of the League Cup, and Henderson could be in contention to feature for the Foxes after missing recent matches. And Lijnders sounded confident in the midfielder’s return.

The Dutch coach said when asked about the latest injury update on Henderson: “Jordan is Jordan. He pushes himself immediately. This is the kind of player you need to slow down and fortunately we have 24 of these players.”

Indeed, the 31-year-old could be back this evening in what could be an important match for Liverpool. And on social media, supporters are buzzing that Henderson could be back already.

The Reds struggled in midfield against Spurs, with a lack of options and experience making it too easy for Antonio Conte’s side to cause problems for Liverpool.
