The Owls dominated their match against Burton Albion, but couldn’t find a way to secure the three points.
Burton Albion’s Jackson Irvine scores their first goal
Sheffield Wednesday were made to rue their countless missed chances against a struggling Burton Albion, as they drew their Championship fixture 1-1.
Ross Wallace had put the Owls 1-0 up, before Jackson Irvine unleashed a half-volley to level matters, and despite controlling the game from there on out, Carlos Carvalhal’s side couldn’t find a winner.
Jordan Rhodes, Fernando Forestieri and Steven Fletcher were all guilty of missing chances players of their stature really should have put away, and the chance to cement their play-off spot slipped from their grasp.
With the strike-force Wednesday have, at least one of those chances should have gone in, especially having demonstrated just how strong they are in front of goal at the weekend with a 5-1 thumping of Norwich City.
Sheffield Wednesday’s Fernando Forestieri has a shot on goal
Granted, Burton undoubtedly made life very difficult for Wednesday with a backs against the wall performance you’d expect from a relegation battling side, but the fact Wednesday still fluffed so many chances will rankle fans.
With Fulham snatching a late point against Leeds United, Wednesday are still five points clear of the Whites having played a game more, but really should be seven clear and sitting in fifth ahead of Reading on goal difference.
