The free agent looks set for a move to Brighton and Hove Albion, with Nottingham Forest seemingly not even in the race.
After Nottingham Forest’s interim manager Gary Brazil stated that he may delve into the free agents market to ease an injury crisis which had claimed Matt Mills, Jack Hobbs and Michael Mancienne, as reported by the Nottingham Post, you wonder why Vegard Forren never appeared to be on their radar.
The Norwegian is perhaps unfairly remembered for six months at Southampton in which he made zero appearances, signing for £4 million and leaving for nothing, as reported by the Daily Mail.
However, reports in The Argus that Forren, a free agent after leaving Molde in January, is set to sign for Brighton and Hove Albion to cover the absences of Conor Goldson and Shane Duffy suggests that Forest may have missed a trick.
The publication reports that Leeds United and Aston Villa were also in the mix for the 29-year-old by Brazil’s side remain conspicuous by their absence.
Though Forren’s previous spell in England will hardly set pulses racing, the fact is that only one side have conceded more goals in the league this season than Forest’s 58 – and that’s a Rotherham United side 18 points adrift of safety.
Daniel Fox and Joe Worrall have performed commendably in a makeshift defence of late but, with injury problems exacerbated by Damien Perquis’ continued exclusion and Thomas Lam’s struggles (below) suggest that signing Forren on a free would have been a no-brainer.
