The England international has not shown the form he would have liked this season.

Everton midfielder Ross Barkley has certainly not had the best of seasons for his club just yet. The attacking midfielder has been criticised by many for some very below-par performances so far this season.

The performances of the 22-year-old this season have been criticised in the media and even by his manager Ronald Koeman – who will know he has much more to offer the team.

This weekend Everton go up against Manchester City. It is a fixture in which Barkley will need to be at his best if Everton are to have any real chance of picking up a good result – especially if he starts the game.

The player himself is certainly up for it. He took to Twitter earlier today to post this message – highlighting his excitement at getting his hands on one of the favourites to win the Premier League this season:

Barkley of course knows that he needs to improve his performances and, as he has been dropped from the England national team at this present moment, he had plenty of time to reflect on his form and prepare over the international break.

Hopefully, for Everton fans, he comes back firing.
