The former Leeds United player has been in great form since leaving Elland Road.
The agent of former Leeds United striker Mirco Antenucci has been speaking to Serie B News about his client’s decision to return to his homeland after he was released by the Championship side last summer.
The forward left Leeds with a record of 19 goals in 80 appearances, but that does not tell the whole story of his impact when given a run of games.
Whites manager Garry Monk could have done with Antenucci’s goals this season, with an over reliance on Chris Wood leading many to question Leeds’ decision not to have sufficient strength in depth in forward areas.
But Antenucci’s agent Silvio Pagliari has explained why the player opted to move to Serie B side SPAL when his Leeds contract expired.
“The choice was still well thought out,” he told Serie B News. “It is a solid company with clear projects, so all was well weighted too with my partner Michelangelo Minieri. All went well.”
It certainly did, with Antenucci finding the net 19 times so far this season, assisting seven more goals to boot.
That is a record that has helped his current club to the top of Serie B, with a five-point cushion over second-placed Hellas Verona.
So it seems he will be playing top flight football next season; something that is far from certain for his former Leeds teammates.
