The Italian forward left Leeds United at the end of last season.
SPAL chairman Walter Mattioli has been speaking to Italian website Tutto Mercato Web about the impact Mirco Antenucci has made since he arrived in the summer.
The striker was released by Leeds United at the end of last season and he has taken his time to make a big impact at his new club.
But that all changed on Monday when he scored all three goals in a 3-0 victory against Avellino. That follows Antenucci’s first league goal of the season against Salernitana at the start of October.
The former Leeds player also has two goals in two Copa Italia matches and he looks like making up for lost time after falling down the pecking order in his final few months at Elland Road.
Antenucci scored 19 goals during his time at Leeds but he was far from prolific, suffering from the conveyor belt of managers coming through the door under owner Massimo Cellino.
Leeds do not appear to miss the Italian and it seems on current evidence that his move was good for all concerned.
Speaking after Antenucci’s hat-trick performance, Mattiolo told TMW, “Antenucci has a particular personality; a great man before a great player.
“It is not for the three goals; I look at what he does every day, the relationship with his teammates and I am delighted he came.”
