Former Leeds United ace Mirco Antenucci seems to be enjoying his football in Italy’s top flight.
Mirco Antenucci is something of a divisive figure among Leeds United fans – and for good reason.
The Italian was one of six men who controversially refused to play in a 2-1 defeat by Charlton in April 2015 at a time when manager Neil Redfearn’s position was under increasing threat.
But the 33-year-old finished that season as the Whites’ top goalscorer in the Championship, before netting nine in the 2015-16 campaign under Uwe Rosler and later Steve Evans.
As a result it is clear that he has something of a love/hate relationship with the Elland Road faithful, but even his harshest critics can’t deny that his post-Leeds career has been rather successful.
Antenucci left United in the summer of 2016 and scored 18 Serie B goals to inspire SPAL to a first top-flight promotion in 49 years last season.
Although he has not found the net in any of his first six Serie A games this season (only three were from the start) he does have three assists under his belt – the same amount as Juan Cuadrado and £50 million-rated winger Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic.
Only Miralem Pjanic (5) and Lorenzo Insigne (4) have set up more goals than him this season.
Leeds certainly have not missed him, but he isn’t missing West Yorkshire either.
