Aston Villa’s Tyrone Mings has admitted on the ITV Football Podcast that it was really strange to think that Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane would be his teammate for England on Monday, under 24 hours after he played against him.
Tottenham took on Villa on Sunday evening, just before the Three Lions squad reported for international duty.
Kane was obviously in direct competition with Mings during the contest.
But the pair had to quickly think about being teammates, and Mings admits that he enquired about Kane’s plans for international duty at full-time.
He said: “I asked if he was going all the way back to London to then travel back up the next day and he said ‘no’. I think he stayed up after the game.
“It is a strange thing to play so late on a Sunday and then meet up on a Monday, after what happened!”

Kane actually scored for Tottenham, as he helped Spurs to a 2-0 win over Villa in their most recent outing.
Despite the apparent strangeness of the situation, both Mings and Kane have featured prominently in England’s training photos this week, so they must have quickly become accustomed to being teammates again.
England take on San Marino later tonight, and the pair may both be featured in Gareth Southgate’s starting line-up.
