Tyrone Mings told his England press conference on Tuesday afternoon that his Aston Villa teammate, John McGinn, texted him ‘well done’ for his Euro 2020 performance.
England will host Scotland in a mouthwatering tie on Friday, with Mings set to clash with his Villa teammate on the Wembley turf.
Mings and McGinn might not be the only Villa players starting in a few days time because Jack Grealish will also be looking to join them out on the pitch if he’s given the nod by Gareth Southgate.
But this is what Villa’s towering centre-back had to say about his club teammate ahead of that Scotland showdown.
“He text me the other day to say ‘well done’ and I wished him all the best for their game,” said Mings. “But not since that, no.”
There are going to be a number of club battles emerging out on that pitch on Friday night, not just ones involving Villa players.
Liam Cooper, who played at centre-back for Scotland against the Czech Republic, may have to deal with the recent attacking talents of Kalvin Phillips.
Whilst Scott McTomiany may have a job to stop his attack-minded club teammate, Luke Shaw, if he is brought back into the left-back spot by his manager.
Either way, this showdown is going to bring back memories of Euro 1996, as someone will be hoping to channel their inner Paul Gascoigne on the day.
