Swansea City enjoyed great success after signing Wilfried Bony from the Eredivisie – and they could repeat the trick by welcoming Mimoun Mahi.
Swansea City manager Paul Clement
Just four months ago, Swansea City’s Premier League status appeared to be hanging by a thread. They were bottom of the table when Paul Clement took over and in desperate need of additions to add a cutting edge to a blunt attack.
Therefore, Tuttomercatoweb reported that they were considering compensating for Mo Barrow’s ill-fated loan move to Leeds United by bringing in Groningen hotshot Mimoun Mahi.
A speedy, versatile forward enjoying the finest season of his professional career, the 23-year-old certainly appeared to be the kind of incisive goalscorer the club were lacking with only targetman Fernando Llorente and the flopping Borja Baston to choose from.
As it turned out, Llorente’s prolific purple patch, Gylfi Sigurdsson’s consistent brilliance and Clement’s never-say-die spirit ensured Swansea survived rather comfortably in the end, finishing a dizzying 15th.
Yet, that does not mean that they should forget about Mahi. Though Vincent Janssen’s toils at Tottenham once again add to the doubts about Eredivisie imports, the Dutch Under-21 international has the raw attributes to follow in the footsteps of former Vitesse Arnhem goal-machine Wilfried Bony in South Wales (below).

Mahi had only scored six Eredivisie goals for Groningen before last season but, after adapting to a new central role, plundered 17 in just 32 games to help Ernest Faber’s team qualify for the domestic Europa League play-offs.
Furthermore, he ended a superb breakthrough campaign with seven goals and two assists in his final six games. It appears that Mahi has rather outgrown his modest Friesland surrounds.

And with Llorente the only reliable striker at Swansea’s disposal, the jet-heeled youngster would give Clement an array of different options in the final third. No doubt he’d be cheaper than Baston too.
