The midfielder has found himself playing in the role for Liverpool this season.
Liverpool’s James Milner has told the Liverpool Echo he is learning the left-back role as quickly as he can.
Milner has found himself used at left-back by manager Jurgen Klopp this season as questions continue to be raised about Alberto Moreno.
The Spaniard struggled once again last season and has looked shaky, to say the least, at the beginning of this one.
So far Milner has looked uninspiring in the role, with him still learning how to play there having starred in midfield throughout his career.
And he says he will try to do so as quickly as possible, with it looking like he will be there for a longer period than expected.
“It’s new for me and I’m learning as fast as I can. There are pluses and minuses to it,” he told the Liverpool Echo.
“Hopefully, I can keep the mistakes to a minimum and do what I can for the team. I think I have adapted throughout my career to playing different positions and hopefully, my experience and my time in football can help me.”
Jurgen Klopp will certainly be praying that Milner can learn to play the left-back role as quickly as possible.
The position has become a major problem for him already this season and it is threatening to be a further weak point in an already suspect defensive unit.
If Milner is going to continue in the role for much of the campaign, which looks likely, how quickly he adapts is likely to play a big role in their chances of success.
