Liverpool midfielder James Milner has told Monday Night Football, which was broadcast by Sky Sports, that he felt his side’s welcome to Leeds United last night was ‘unjust’.

Liverpool arrived to fierce protests from supporters of both clubs outside the ground.

Leeds supporters could be heard booing the Liverpool players and staff after they arrived, due to the anger they felt about the decision to join the European Super League.

But Milner actually came and spoke out about the completion after the game.

And he insists that decision was made without prior consultation of the players.

“I think the players have no say so the welcome we got to the ground tonight felt a little bit unjust, obviously,” he said.

“We’re here to play football and have no control over it.”

Milner, who used to represent Leeds, will know the passion felt by supporters of the Yorkshire club.

Leeds’ squad were also united in their desire to show their disapproval of the move from the Premier League’s big six, and wore t-shirts to protest the decision during the warm-up.

Those shirts irked Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, but Leeds CEO Victor Orta still stood proudly holding one aloft as the players walked out.

The fall-out over Liverpool’s decision to join the Super League will continue today, with the Premier League’s other clubs set to hold a meeting to discuss the consequences of the move.
