Millwall’s on-loan winger Ben Marshall was at evens with the Leeds United fans last weekend.

Ben Marshall of Millwall prepares to take a corner during the Sky Bet Championship match between Hull City and Millwall FC at KCOM Stadium on March 6, 2018 in Hull, England.

Millwall winger Ben Marshall says he enjoyed winding up the Leeds United supporters following his goal last weekend before admitting the Whites are a good side under Marcelo Bielsa, South London Press report.

“They were giving me some and I thought I would celebrate in front of them. I’m sure they enjoyed it as well, giving me some stick. And I enjoyed rubbing it in their faces,” the on-loan Norwich City man explained.

“I’m from Manchester and played for Manchester United [at youth level]. It’s a bit tasty. But I think they were just giving it to me because I celebrated in front of them.”

Marshall then went on to admit: “Leeds are a good side, aren’t they? You can’t give them too many chances. I thought we gave them a good run for their money and were unlucky to get beaten.”

Marshall had extra reason to want to get one over on Leeds that day. Coming from Manchester, the rivalry with United is there while his parent club Norwich City would have been hoping for a positive Millwall result.

The winger’s penalty put the Lions 2-1 up in the second period, which he celebrated in-front of the Leeds fans. His joy, however, was short-lived as the Elland Road crowd ultimately had the last laugh.

Luke Ayling’s header cancelled out Marshall’s spot-kick 19 minutes from time before the influential Pablo Hernandez netted his second and the winner on 83 minutes, sliding home Tyler Roberts’ cutback.

The result moved Leeds back into the automatic promotion zone following Sheffield United’s home defeat to Bristol City, while Millwall remain just one point above the drop zone in their fight for Championship survival.

Marshall will be hoping for better luck in Millwall’s next encounter and Leeds supporters may well be wishing him well as the south London club host fellow promotion-chasers West Bromwich Albion and The Den.
