HITC Sport understands Millwall have agreed a deal for Reading defender.
Heung-Min Son of Tottenham Hotspur (L) is put under pressure from Jake Cooper of Millwall (R)
Millwall have finally agreed a deal to sign former loan star Jake Cooper on a permanent basis from Reading, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
Cooper spent the second half of last season on loan at Millwall and helped them win promotion to the Championship via the League One play-offs.
The 22-year-old made 18 appearances during his time at the Den and Lions boss Neil Harris was keen to bring him back to the club on a full-time basis.
Millwall have seen two bids rejected by Reading already this summer, but they have now come back with an improved offer which has been accepted by the Royals.
Cooper is in the final year of his contract at Reading and the club have decided to cash-in on him now rather than let him run down his contract.
Reading boss Jaap Stam is willing to let Cooper move on as he is behind the likes of Paul McShane, Liam Moore and Tiago Ilori in the centre-back area at the Madejski Stadium.
A number of clubs have been monitoring Cooper’s situation at Reading, but Millwall have always been leading the chase for the England Under-20 international.
Cooper’s arrival will come as a major boost to Harris as he looks to finalise his squad ahead of the upcoming Championship campaign kicking off next week.
