New Millwall signing Jon Dadi Bodvarsson says his final season at Reading was a nightmare as he suffered ongoing injuries which restricted his playing time at the Madejski Stadium, South London Press report.
“Last season was a nightmare with injuries. I had a lot of little niggles which were preventing me getting a run of games. A lot of struggle with my calves. I was always chasing it last season and never got on a roll. Now I feel good. I don’t feel any pain or any nibbles. Hopefully it will stay like that,” Bodvarsson explained.
The Iceland international striker was a popular figure at Reading. He scored seven goals in 20 Championship starts during the 2017-18 campaign, but last year he struggled badly with injuries.
Bodvarsson made just nine starts last term, and his future was in doubt as manager Jose Gomes prepared to trim down the squad during the summer to make room for new signings.
The 27-year-old ended up joining league rivals Millwall for a reported £750,000, and he marked his return to full fitness with a brace in the recent Carabao Cup tie against Oxford United.
Reading, meanwhile, bolstered their striker options in the summer as George Puskas and Lucas Joao arrived for big-money fees – the latter signing from fellow Championship side Sheffield Wednesday.
Millwall will be hoping Bodvarsson can remain injury free as the Icelandic striker has plenty of ability in his locker.
Alongside Matt Smith, Tom Bradshaw and Tom Elliott, Lions boss Neil Harris now has plenty of options in the final third and a different set of strikers for different opponents.
