According to a report in the South London Press, Millwall are interested in signing Reading’s Jon Dadi Bodvarsson as they look to bolster their attacking options this summer.

The report claims the Lions and Reading are still some way off agreeing a deal for the striker, but he is high on the club’s wish-list with manager Neil Harris keen to add another forward player after signing Matt Smith.

Smith arrived last week from Queens Park Rangers. He is seen as a replacement for Lee Gregory who joined Stoke City last month, while fellow forward Steve Morrison has left the club on loan.

Millwall currently have one of the smallest squads in the Championship and after finishing just one place above the relegation zone last season, this summer is a testing time for the club.

Bodvarsson would provide the Lions with more impetus in the final third, and the 27-year-old has plenty of experience having featured for Wolverhampton Wanderers prior to joining Reading in 2017.

The Iceland international’s crowning moment of his career thus far came in 2016 at the European Championships. He featured in every game as Iceland reached the quarter-finals, dumping England out on the way after their 2-1 win at the Stade de Nice in the round of 16.

Bodvarsson’s goal against Austria in the final group game ensured a meeting with England. Few realistically gave them a chance against the Three Lions, but they pulled off the shock of the tournament.

His record for Reading over the past two seasons has been solid. Despite not being a regular, he has hit 14 goals in 29 Championship starts – a record comparable with the league’s best forwards.
