Millwall have been linked with former Hull City man Fraizer Campbell.
According to a report in The Sun (paper edition; July 21 page 61), Millwall have failed in their bid to sign forward Fraizer Campbell following his release from Championship rivals Hull City.
It is claimed Millwall made their move for Campbell, but the former Hull man isn’t keen, with Blackburn Rovers and Huddersfield Town also cited as potential suitors for the current free agent.
Campbell is without a club after Hull opted against extending his contract at the KCOM Stadium.
The Tigers’ financial position meant they were unwilling to offer the former Manchester United man a new deal, despite Campbell being a regular last season, scoring 12 goals and grabbing six assists.
Millwall are short on options in the final third after losing Lee Gregory to Stoke City, while the experienced Steve Morrison has joined Shrewsbury Town on a season-long loan deal.
Matt Smith has arrived at The Den from Queens Park Rangers, and Millwall have also signed Jon Dadi Bodvarsson from Reading. But both attackers are physical, standing at over six feet.
Campbell, on the other hand, is a quick poacher who likes to play off the last defender. He is a different player entirely, and Millwall’s reported move shows the Lions are still looking for the right blend up top.
The 31-year-old will surely find another Championship club this summer after the season he has had. He may feel he still has plenty to offer for a side pushing for promotion, whereas Millwall have been tipped to struggle.
