Millwall made a mess of their Championship game away at Leeds United on Saturday, twice taking the lead against the Whites but eventually succumbing to a 3-2 defeat at Elland Road.
The Lions began brightly against Marcelo Bielsa’s side, with Ben Marshall and Jed Wallace both going close early on, before Ben Thompson headed home from Mahlon Romeo’s delivery in the 10th minute.
Leeds then spurned the opportunity to level from the penalty spot, Patrick Bamford firing straight at David Martin, but they did find an equaliser on 34 minutes as Luke Ayling cut the ball back for Pablo Hernandez to slot home.
After the interval, Millwall once again went ahead as a spot kick of their own was successfully converted just before the hour mark, David Marshall sending Bailey Peacock-Farrell the wrong way from 12 yards, but it was not to last.
On 71 minutes, Barry Douglas delivered a curling cross for Ayling to head home at the back post, and with just seven minutes left to play, Hernandez was the matchwinner, netting from inside the area to finish off a square pass from the left.
The result sees Millwall just one point and one place above the bottom three – albeit with a game in hand still – and following the full-time whistle, some Lions fans were raging at letting such a good opportunity slide:
