Orlando City goal-machine Cyle Larin is reportedly a target for Leeds United after a prolific run of form in the MLS.
After an unbeaten start to the league season which encompassed Leeds United’s biggest win since 2004 and some of the most attractive attacking football in the division, the nature of Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Millwall came as something of a shock.
Thomas Christiansen’s previously prolific side failed to muster even a single shot on target as they were dominated by a newly-promoted side at The Den. And you wonder whether this was the sort of game where a natural-born goalscorer could have salvaged Leeds a point.
Hamburg’s Pierre-Michel Lasogga is the only fit and senior centre-forward on Leeds’ books at the moment and, while he has enjoyed an excellent start with two goals and an assist in two games prior to the Millwall defeat, the German is not a typical fox-in-the-box who will sniff out a chance late on in a game.
Cyle Larin, however, very much is. The Sun (10th September, page 58) reported that Leeds are considering paying £2 million for the Orlando City striker, one of the most exciting young talents in the MLS.
Fox in the box
The Canadian international is a natural-born goalscorer. A case in point; he became Orlando’s all-time most prolific player last weekend when hitting his 43rd goal for the club – a feat he has managed in just over two seasons. The last player to hold the record scored 42 in six years by comparison.
Plundering 17 goals in a remarkable debut campaign, Larin is also the highest scoring ‘Rookie’ in the history of the American top flight. And his habit of popping up when his team need him could come in handy over a long Championship campaign.
Lasogga is a player who has tended to blow hot and cold in recent years and he is yet to prove he can be relied upon throughout an entire campaign.
Therefore, a striker with a nose for goal like Larin could come in handy when Leeds are a goal down and lacking in inspiration.
