Millwall’s Neil Harris was a potential candidate for the vacant Huddersfield Town job.
Millwall manager Neil Harris says it was nice to be linked with the vacant Huddersfield Town job but admitted there was no contact prior to Danny Cowley getting the job, South London Press report.
“Speculation like that is nice in football but there has been no contact between the clubs. I have got my full focus on Blackburn at the weekend,” Harris explained.
Huddersfield were on the lookout for a new manager after parting ways with Jan Siewert following a disappointing start to their Championship campaign.
Harris wouldn’t have been at top of the list for most Huddersfield supporters, but that doesn’t take away from the excellent job he has done at Millwall since taking over the role from Ian Holloway in 2015.
The former striker guided Millwall back to the Championship via the League One playoffs in his second full season in charge, having previously missed out the year before after a playoff final defeat to Barnsley.
Harris has since preserved Millwall’s status in the Championship, with a top 10 finish in 2017-18. The 42-year-old has also taken the Lions to an FA Cup quarter-final during his time in charge.
Huddersfield ultimately went on to appoint Danny Cowley from Lincoln City. It’s a big step up for the 40-year-old, but he arrives at the Terriers with an impressive reputation for getting results.
Millwall will be glad Harris is still at the helm, but it may not be long before he gets linked with another bigger club should he carry on with his fine job in south London.
