Ibrox veteran Kenny Miller is to return to Rangers squad on Tuesday night after overcoming a muscle injury.

Rangers veteran Kenny Miller is expected to return to the Gers side on Tuesday night as Graeme Murty takes his side to Firhill to face Alan Archibald’s Partick Thistle, but where does that leave Eduardo Herrera?

Miller, 38, has been sidelined for almost two months after rupturing his hamstring during December’s 2-1 win over Hibernian, but is now set to return to the side as Murty looks for three points.

Rangers completed the signing of Jason Cummings in January on loan from English Championship side Nottingham Forest, and he is considered second choice behind Alfredo Morelos.

Josh Windass is also proving effective in a much more advanced role, and he will be keen to continue his impressive goalscoring form which saw him find the back of the net three times in the 3-0 win over Fraserburgh.

Murty confirmed on Monday that former Celtic striker Miller will return to the Light Blues’ squad for Tuesday night’s trip to Partick, meaning powerful 6ft 2in target man Herrera could now be considered fifth-choice striker.

Behind Miller, Morelos, Windass and Cummings, the 29-year-old will be wondering why he told the Daily Record that he wanted to remain at Ibrox in January, as his search for first-team game time becomes almost pointless.

Herrera has made 23 appearances in all competitions but has found the back of the net only twice, and that has seen him plummet down the Ibrox pecking order despite being signed for a hefty £1.5million transfer fee.

He will be wishing he joined fellow Mexican Carlos Pena in returning to his home country. Herrera’s only saving grace will be Miller’s contract – at 38 years, it remains to be seen whether it will be extended as his current deal expires this summer.

Herrera may have to see out a difficult half a season on the sidelines before returning to the Rangers fold, with Cummings only on loan until the summer too. But he could be tempted to leave at the end of the season, if Murty overlooks him.
