The Charlotte Hornets’ struggles during the 2025-26 season continued during their NBA Cup matchup.
The Charlotte Hornets’ difficult 2025–26 campaign hit another low point with their third straight NBA Cup loss, a decisive 129–101 defeat to the New York Knicks. The game was never competitive, and frustration spilled over postgame as Miles Bridges openly criticised a portion of the Hornets’ fanbase for what he sees as a lack of support.
Bridges acknowledged the team’s failures but made it clear that one recurring trend bothers him deeply: home fans cheering loudly for visiting opponents. With Charlotte sitting at 4–14 and currently 12th in the Eastern Conference, the forward suggested that the team’s performance has allowed opposing supporters to take over Spectrum Center far too often.

Bridges says Hornets fans cheering for opponents “happens every time”
Bridges expressed disappointment after the loss, saying: “I hate it. I hate it a lot. It happens when the Knicks come, it happens when the Lakers come. I hate it, but we didn’t do anything to shut them up.” His comments reflect a long-standing issue for the franchise, which has struggled for relevance since its inception and has seen frustration grow within its fanbase.
Despite having promising young players such as LaMelo Ball, Brandon Miller and Kon Knueppel, the Hornets’ continued struggles have led to a tense home atmosphere. Bridges admitted that Charlotte’s shortcomings make it difficult to demand more from supporters, but emphasised that the roster must be accountable for changing the narrative.
Inside the Hornets’ frustrated locker room
Bridges also shed light on the mindset inside the locker room, making it clear that the losing streak has worn on the team. “The season is not over, but the guys on this team don’t like losing. We’ve got to do something to change it. I’m not happy to be losing. I’d rather win, but just got to do something to change it,” he said.
While the season is still young, Charlotte must find a way to reverse its form before the gap in the standings becomes insurmountable. Whether one of their young stars can spark a turnaround remains to be seen — but for Bridges, the first step is giving fans a reason to cheer for the home team again.
