AC Milan are reportedly struggling to convince Rafael Leao to sign a new contract with the club, with the rumoured Tottenham target yet to be pleased with the demands offered by the Rossoneri.
According to CalcioMercato, the reigning Serie A champions are fighting a losing battle to get Leao to sign a new long-term contract, with interest in the Milan superstar continuing to mount as the Portuguese international’s future looks likely to be away from the San Siro in 2023.
TuttoMercatoWeb recently reported that Tottenham were interested in signing Leao, with west London rivals Chelsea also in the mix for the Milan superstar, who is believed to have a release clause in his current deal worth €120m (£105m).
One of Milan’s best players over the last 12 months and a key reason behind the Italian giants’ Serie A title win last season, Leao is quickly establishing himself as one of Europe’s most exciting talents, with the versatile attacker this campaign alone bagging six goals and nine assists in all competitions.

Indeed, Leao signing a new contract with Milan will be huge for Stefan Pioli’s side. However, with the club unwilling to match the winger’s demands, there’s a good chance that Tottenham could now find themselves in an excellent position to try and bring the forward to north London next year.
With Antonio Conte at the helm, Leao could be convinced to move to Tottenham if Daniel Levy is willing to match Milan’s asking price for their star attacker. Yet despite the high fee, the 23-year-old superstar will be more than worth the reported £105m transfer fee.
Tottenham must sign Leao if new Milan contract is rejected

Harry Kane’s future makes for uncomfortable reading for Tottenham given the likelihood of the England international packing up and leaving north London is for next summer, and because of this, Spurs must do all the can to sign Leao if the attacker rejects a new deal to stay at Milan.
Able to score, assist and cause utter mayhem in the final third, Leao has the potential to become a menace of a forward for the right Premier League side. And with Tottenham likely to lose a key attacker next year, the Portuguese star is perfect for Conte’s future plans.
