Wolverhampton Wanderers paid £16m to bring Patrick Cutrone to the Premier League from Serie A powerhouses AC Milan – and Davide Calabria wasn’t happy.
New Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Patrick Cutrone only left AC Milan a matter of weeks ago but it seems that he’s already missed at the San Siro.
Speaking to Sky Italia, Rossoneri defender Davide Calabria is already ruing Milan’s decision to sell his fellow Italy international.
Like Cutrone, the highly-rated right-back came through the ranks at the seven-time European champions and played alongside Wolves’ new £16 million man from the reserves to the first-team.
But while Cutrone was forced out of Milan by the January signing of lethal Polish striker Krzystof Piatek, Calabria still has a big part to play in Marco Giampaolo’s plans. Though life won’t be quite the same at the San Siro for the Brescia-born 22-year-old without his old sparring partner.
“I miss Cutrone, I was sorry for his departure,” Calabria said, before accepting that leaving was probably the right decision.
“But it is part of his growth.
“At the moment he is at ease and he is happy, I hope he can do well.”
At just 21, Cutrone needs regular game-time if he is to fulfil his undoubted potential and he should get that at Wolves, even if Raul Jimenez provides rather daunting competition for a place in Nuno Espirito Santo’s starting XI.
Nuno prefers a system with a lone centre-forward but, interestingly, Cutrone and Jimenez were on the pitch at the same time for a portion of Wolves’ 4-0 Europa League thrashing of Pyunik on Thursday night.
