Celtic need a big, big response tonight.

Neil Lennon’s side welcome AC Milan to Parkhead in a Europa League opener, fresh from their dismal defeat by Rangers there on Saturday.

During the Old Firm, Celtic failed to muster a single shot on target, but Lennon will be demanding a huge response from his troops later today.

According to Sky Sports, the Hoops will be without star striker Odsonne Edouard, but the visitors have identified another big threat in the form of Callum McGregor.

The 27-year-old has 19 goals and 26 assists for Celtic during the past two seasons.

And Milan boss Stefano Pioli has admitted that the Scottish midfielder has ‘everything’ needed to excel in football.

He told The Scottish Sun: “One player who has particularly impressed me is the midfielder Callum McGregor. He is a classic modern, dynamic midfielder and excellent technique. He is everything you need.”

If Celtic do manage to pull off a good result, McGregor will probably be key in that.

The bad news is that the Italian giants are clearly already aware of the talent he possesses, which makes the player’s job that bit harder because presumably the visitors will be paying him extra attention.

But the mark of a class player is to succeed in spite of tactical disadvantages against you and it’ll be interesting to see whether McGregor can leave Milan even more impressed by the full-time whistle.
