Mohammadi was reportedly eyed by Celtic as a potential Kieran Tierney replacement.

A player Celtic reportedly pursued for a year has joined another club.

The Scottish Sun claimed last month that the versatile full-back, Milad Mohammadi, was seen as ‘a real option’ for Celtic as they prepared for Kieran Tierney’s departure.

At the time, Mohammadi was out of contract at his previous employers, Akhmat Grozy.

But he is, for now, officially off the market after signing a three-year deal with the Belgian side, KAA Gent.

How seriously Celtic were pursuing Mohammadi – in whom they are said to have shown an interest after seeing him in action for Iran at last summer’s World Cup – remains to be seen.

And the fact that the Bhoys have now paid a reported fee of around £3 million for Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo suggests that Mohammadi was either low on their list of targets (if on it at all) or simply out of reach, with a move to Gent favoured.

But with no continental football to speak of for Gent – unlike the Champions League-qualified Celtic – one suspects it is probably the former.
