Mikel Merino has made a wonderful start at Newcastle United since signing from Borussia Dortmund.
Merino joined Newcastle from Borussia Dortmund in the summer transfer window, and he has wasted no time making an impression at St. James’ Park.
Newcastle initially only signed Merino on loan, but they have already moved to make his transfer permanent for a fee of £7 million, as reported by the Chronicle.
And Merino has admitted that he is loving his time with the Magpies, as everyone around the club seems to have so much faith in him.
“I just want to care about this team, my team-mates and keep improving. I think dreams will be filled if I do the right job,” Merino said.
“I am in the right place because I have the confidence from the coach, the people and my team-mates.
“I am happy here, the way they live here, the type of city and the people in it. Now I am happy here and I think that’s good for me.
“I have to say thanks to everyone for believing in me and I want to carry on.”
Merino has immediately been given a crucial role in Newcastle’s first-team by Rafael Benitez, and he is thriving with the responsibility.
The 21-year-old Spaniard has started regularly in Newcastle’s midfield, and his technical ability has caught the eye.
Merino also scored Newcastle’s winner against Crystal Palace in his last outing, to increase his popularity at St. James’ Park even further.
Newcastle have made a very encouraging start to the campaign, and currently sit in seventh place in the Premier League table.
