Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, Duncan Castles has shared an update on Arsenal’s pursuit of Ben White and Mikel Arteta’s stance on the player.

It’s no secret that Arsenal want White this summer, they’ve already put multiple bids in for him, and it seems as though they’re very keen to get this one over the line.

One man who is reportedly eager to sign White is Mikel Arteta, with Castles claiming that Arteta sees him as a future captain.

What’s been said?

Castles shared the latest on Arsenal’s pursuit of White.

“The offer came at the beginning of this week they’ve upped the guaranteed sum to £48m, so just £2m short of the amount that they thought Brighton would accept. There’s another £6m in performance-related variables, and those should be easily achieved as the majority are dependent on Arsenal appearances, and obviously if you’re signing a player at that price with the backing of the manager, in fact, Mikel Arteta is very much driving this move. Arteta sees Ben White as a future captain of the club and central to the rebuild he’s trying to do there,” Castles said.

Future skipper

If Arteta truly does see White as a future Arsenal skipper then the Gunners have to do all they can to sign him this summer.

The Gunners are certainly pushing to sign him, but Brighton seemingly won’t budge on their asking price, and as ever, Arsenal are trying to get the best deal possible.

Whether or not White will one day be an Arsenal captain remains to be seen, but this just goes to show how much Arteta rates the England international.

Fingers crossed the Gunners can get this deal done in the coming weeks.
