Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has raved about Mohamed Elneny on BT Sport.

Arteta was impressed with the display produced by Elneny during Arsenal’s 3-0 win against Fulham away from home at Craven Cottage in London in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

The 28-year-old defensive midfielder worked hard in the middle of the park, kept things simple, and gave a good account of himself.

It was the Egypt international’s first start in the Premier League since May 2019, with the player having spent the 2019-20 campaign on loan at Besiktas.

According to WhoScored, the defensive midfielder took one shot which was not on target, had a pass accuracy of 93.8%, took 70 touches, and made four interceptions.

Arteta said about Elneny on BT Sport: “Mo has been excellent since day one in training. He is a player that I know really well because we played together as well. I know what he can give us, and how willing he is as well to improve. I think today he was phenomenal.”

Important player for Arsenal?

Elneny has not been a huge success at Arsenal, but it is clear that Arteta rates him highly and knows what he can get from him.

With the Gunners aiming to finish in the top four of the Premier League table this season, the North London outfit do need a strong and big squad, and the Egyptian could end up playing an important part in the club’s quest for Champions League football.
