Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has raved about Mohamed Elneny in Football.London following his performance against Newcastle United.
Elneny was in action for Arsenal in their Premier League game against Newcastle away from home at St. James’ Park in the Premier League on Sunday.
The 28-year-old Egypt international did well in the middle of the park and scored after just six minutes, as the Gunners won 2-0.
As reported by BBC Sport, it was the defensive midfielder’s first goal in the Premier League for Arsenal.
Arteta has praised the Egypt international defensive midfielder, and has said that he is very popular among his Arsenal teammates.
The Spaniard told Football.London about Elneny: “A good one, an important one. You could see the reaction of his teammates. He’s a really popular guy in the dressing room and he totally deserves everything he gets because he’s a fantastic player and person to work with.”

Elneny spent the 2019-20 campaign on loan at Besiktas from Arsenal and returned to the Gunners last summer.
The 28-year-old has revived his Arsenal career under manager Arteta and has done relatively well when he has been called upon.
According to WhoScored, the 28-year-old has made 14 starts and six substitute appearances in the Premier League for the Gunners this season, scoring one goal in the process.
The defensive midfielder has also made five starts and seven substitute appearances in the Europa League for the North London club this campaign, scoring two goals in the process, according to WhoScored.
Linked-away
Interestingly, Elneny has been linked with a move away from Arsenal in the summer transfer window.
Sporx reported in March that Elneny has been offered to Turkish giants Galatasaray by his agent William D’Avila, as covered by HITC Sport.
It will be interesting to see if the defensive midfielder stays at Arsenal next season or leaves in the summer transfer window.
According to Transfermarkt.co.uk, the defensive midfielder is out of contract at the Gunners in the summer of 2022.
