Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta has suggested to Football.London that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will sign a new contract.

Arteta has said that there have been good talks between Arsenal and Aubameyang, and that he is confident that there will be an agreement soon.

The Arsenal boss has added that the Gabon international striker signing a new deal will be great news for Arsenal fans.

Arteta told Football.London about Aubameyang’s contract: “I keep being positive. We have some really good talks with him and his agents and I am pretty confident that we can find an agreement soon. That’s my feeling.”

When asked if it will be a massive lift to everybody, the Arsenal boss said: “Absolutely, and for him as well! I think he should be very happy if he is able to stay at the club for a long time and I think he will be delighted with the news.”

Boost for Arsenal fans

Arteta’s comments suggest that Aubameyang will sign a new contract with Arsenal, and that is great news for the Emirates Stadium faithful.

The 31-year-old striker is one of the best footballers in the world and has been arguably the best player for the Gunners over the past two seasons.

According to WhoScored, the former Borussia Dortmund striker scored 22 goals and provided three assists in the Premier League for Arsenal last season, while during the 2018-19 campaign, the Gabon international scored 22 goals and provided five assists in the league.

Arsenal will be aiming to finish in the top four of the Premier League table next season, and Aubameyang will play an important role in that quest.
