Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has raved about Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan on Football.London.
Arteta worked with Gundogan when he was a coach at City, and the Arsenal boss believes that the 30-year-old midfielder is a tremendous footballer.
The Spaniard made the comments ahead of the Premier League game between Arsenal and City at the Emirates Stadium in North London on Sunday evening.
Arteta told Football.London about Gundogan: “Well I think now he’s playing a higher role in the team. He’s always had the ability to arrive in the box and has great timing and great qualities to finish the actions.
“Before he played a deeper role and he had the license to do that. He’s a tremendous player and he’s doing really, really well this season.”

World-class midfielder
Gundogan has been on the books of City since the summer of 2016 when he joined from Borussia Dortmund for a transfer fee reported by The Independent to be worth £20 million.
The Germany international has not always got the headlines, with the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling and David Silva (now at Real Sociedad) hogging the limelight.
However, this season, the 30-year-old has come to the fore and could end up winning the Premier League Player of the Year award.
According to WhoScored, the Germany international has made 16 starts and two substitute appearances in the Premier League for City so far this season, scoring 11 goals and providing one assist in the process.
