Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has suggested to the club’s official website that Reiss Nelson will not go out on loan in the summer transfer window.

Arteta has suggested that he wants the 20-year-old winger to be ready when he is called into action.

The Arsenal boss has said that the England Under-21 international has improved a lot over the past few months under him.

Arteta told Arsenal’s official website when asked whether Nelson will go out on loan: “I think they all realise the competition we have in forward positions.

“I’ve already spoken with Reiss about it and I really like the way he’s training. I think we both agree about how much he’s improved in the last few months and he’s going to carry on pushing himself and the rest of the team.

“He needs to be ready because in football, unfortunately, or fortunately, things don’t take three months to change, it can take three minutes and you have to be ready when that opportunity comes.”

Stats

According to WhoScored, Nelson made seven starts and 10 substitute appearances in the Premier League for Arsenal last season, scoring one goal in the process.

The winger also provided one assist in two Europa League games for the Gunners during the 2019-20 campaign, according to WhoScored.

Arsenal stay

Nelson spent the 2018-19 season on loan at Hoffenheim in Germany, and the young winger has done well when he has played for Arsenal.

The youngster will improve if he continues to work hard and learns from Arteta in training.

True, there will not be too many chances for the youngster this season, but he has to be ready and must make the most of the minutes he will get on the pitch.
