Mikel Arteta has lauded Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson after the attacker’s incredible performance for the Gunners in their 5-0 win against Nottingham Forest.

Speaking to the press via Football London, the 40-year-old manager was full of praise for the 22-year-old forward after Nelson was the unlikely hero against Forest, with Nelson bagging a brace and an assist as Arsenal recorded their biggest win of the season so far.

Coming on as an early substitute for Bukayo Saka, Nelson was in electric form as the youngster scored his first Premier League goal since July 2020, with the attacker’s performance being met with plenty of praise on social media by supporters and pundits.

Whilst Saka’s injury is believed to be no major concern, Nelson’s performance against Forest will be a huge confidence boost for Arsenal fans, with the winger seemingly proving that he can be a suitable replacement for the England international in the coming weeks.

Indeed, the UEFA Europa League clash against FC Zurich this Thursday will likely see Nelson get the start ahead of Saka, and for Arteta, the Basque manager and his staff are delighted with what they saw from the Hale End academy graduate against Forest.

Arteta said when asked about how happy he is with Nelson’s display for Arsenal this Sunday: “All the staff are so happy for him, he’s really evolving and maturing, and showing everyday how much he wants it.”
