Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have been linked with Ivan Toney, and so has Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur.

However, it seems that Arsenal think that they could be able to beat bitter North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur to the signing of Brentford striker Ivan Toney in the January transfer window.

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur linked with Ivan Toney

The Mirror has reported that Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea are interested in signing Toney.

The report has noted that Manchester United have looked at signing the England international striker in the past.

The Mirror has claimed that Gunners manager Mikel Arteta will make Toney his “No.1 January target to convince him to join Arsenal ahead of potential rivals”.

The report has added that Arteta was able to convince Declan Rice to move to Arsenal in the summer transfer window ahead of Bayern Munich and Manchester City.

And, it seems that Arsenal think that Arteta could use his persuasion power to get Toney to sign for the Gunners in the middle of the season.

Arsenal more likely than Tottenham Hotspur to sign Ivan Toney

I think that Arsenal are more likely than Tottenham Hotspur to sign Ivan Toney from Brentford in the January transfer window.

The Mirror has reported that Brentford want £60 million in transfer fees for Toney.

I do not think that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy will cough up £60 million for a 27-year-old striker in the middle of a season.

Arsenal are aiming to win the Premier League title this season.

A player of Toney’s quality and ability to score goals could be crucial for the Gunners in the second half of the season.

Arsenal could splash the cash in January if the bosses believe that Arteta could get the Gunners over the line in terms of the Premier League title.

Earlier this month, former Arsenal prospect Jay Bothroyd outlined why Toney would be a good signing for the North London club.

Bothroyd said about Toney on Sky Sports: “He scores goals, he is prolific, he is strong, he leads the line really well.

“If you put him in any of the big teams, he is going to score at least 20 Premier League goals a season. Great on penalties.

“I would love Arsenal to sign him.”
