Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has suggested to the club’s official website that Reiss Nelson and Folarin Balogun could start against Manchester City.
The Gunners will take on Premier League rivals City in the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup on Tuesday evening.
Ahead of the match, Arteta has said that 21-year-old winger Nelson – described by the Spaniard as “unpredictable” in Football.London in November 2020 – and 19-year-old striker Balogun – described by Everton winger Yannick Bolasie as “exciting” on Twitter earlier this month – could feature.
When asked about the availability of Nelson and Balogun, Arteta told Arsenal’s official website: “They’re a possibility.”
Playing against Manchester City
While it would be a risk to play both Nelson and Balogun from the start against City, the two young players have shown that they can step up when called upon.
The winger and the striker have done well in the Europa League for Arsenal this season, and against Pep Guardiola’s side on Tuesday evening, they will be determined to showcase their talent.
Many of the senior Arsenal players are not having the best of seasons, and perhaps it is time for manager Arteta to throw in some young and hungry players and allow them to express themselves.
