Mikel Arteta has confirmed to the Guardian that Arsenal defender Pablo Mari’s injury does not look good.

Mari pulled up after chasing Kyle Walker early on in Arsenal’s defeat to Manchester City last night.

The Brazilian defender joined Granit Xhaka in having to go off early.

And although Arsenal do not know the severity of their injury problems yet, Arteta has suggested that he thinks Mari’s could be a big problem.

“They are getting assessed at the moment and we will know something more probably tomorrow morning,” Arteta said. “Pablo’s one did not look really good, to be fair.”

Mari only joined Arsenal in January but his start last night showed the faith that Arteta already has in him.

Arsenal struggled in his absence with his replacement, David Luiz, going on to have a nightmare display.

Luiz was at fault for two of the goals which Arsenal conceded and managed to get sent off, as City went on to cruise to a 3-0 victory.
