Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has said that Thomas Partey played well against Manchester City after coming on as a substitute, as quoted in Football.London.
Partey did not start for Arsenal against City in the Premier League game at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday evening, but the Ghana international midfielder came on in the 83rd minute.
It was the 27-year-old’s first competitive appearance for the Gunners following his move from Atletico Madrid in the summer transfer window.
Arteta has given his take on Partey, and the Arsenal boss believes that the midfielder did well when he came on.
The Spaniard told Football.London when asked about easing Partey into the first team: “We will see how quickly we can make it with him but as well we have to respect that process and that time for him because he only trained a day really with us.
“It’s a lot of new information, it’s a completely different game model for him to understand. We have to respect a little bit that. When he came on he looked good.”
How did Thomas Partey play against Manchester City?
Partey had only just joined up with Arsenal, having spent most of the international break away with Ghana.
It made sense for Arteta not to include the midfielder in the starting lineup against City, as he did not have enough training sessions with the team.
The midfielder simply did not have enough time to make a major impact on the match, but he did take some good touches.
According to WhoScored, Partey had a pass accuracy of 88.9%, took 13 touches, and made one tackle, one interception and one tackle.
