Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Mikel Arteta has given his view on any punishment Arsenal will face for joining The Super League.

As we all know by now, Arsenal were due to be one of the founding members of The Super League, before the whole thing came crashing down earlier this week.

Despite the fact all six English clubs who’d initially signed up made a U-turn, there has still been conversation around whether or not these clubs should be punished.

Arteta was understandably asked about the idea of his team being punished, to which he responded:

“I don’t know the legal details to respond to that question. Obviously, when you act and you make the decision, there are always consequences but I don’t know the extent of those consequences. I think here we have to understand the principal and the reasons why those clubs were trying to achieve something but if it wasn’t done in the right way then there are always consequences and we’re going to have to accept any there.”

It seems as though the Spaniard would be very understanding of any sanctions that come his team’s way.

It remains to be seen if any punishment is dished out to these six clubs, but Arteta says he’ll have to accept whatever happens.

This is certainly a situation to keep an eye on in the coming weeks and months.
