Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has told the club’s official website that Gabriel Martinelli could be part of the squad this weekend.
The Gunners will take on Burnley at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League on Sunday evening.
Martinelli – who cost Arsenal £6 million in transfer fee when they signed him for Ituano FC in the summer of 2019, as reported by The Telegraph – returned from injury he suffered in March 2020 to play for the North London club against AFC Wimbledon in midweek.
The 19-year-old Brazilian forward is now fit, and Arteta has suggested that the teenager could be included in the Arsenal squad for the first time this season against Burnley.
Arteta told Arsenal’s official website: “Martinelli played his first 45 minutes for a long time [for the under-21s against AFC Wimbledon], he was good and he came through the game and felt really good. He has trained.”
Good option for Mikel Arteta
With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang struggling to score goals, Arsenal could do with someone like Martinelli.
The Brazilian is unlikely to start against Burnley, but the teenager would be a good option to have on the substitutes’ bench for manager Arteta.
Arsenal will be confident of picking up all three points against a Burnley team who are in serious danger of getting relegated to the Championship at the end of the season.
