Mikel Arteta has told his Arsenal press conference on Friday afternoon – as per Football London – that Gabriel Martinelli’s all-round contribution of late has been “exceptional”. Arteta says the Brazilian is showing “big things”.
Martinelli, 20, has become crucial to the new-look Arsenal under Arteta of late. Forming an attacking foursome alongside Martin Odegaard, Alexandre Lacazette and Bukayo Saka – the Brazilian has sparkled on Arsenal’s left.
He has started 11 of Arsenal’s last 12 Premier League matches – missing one due to suspension after two yellow cards in the 1-0 win over Wolves. He has scored five goals and laid on two assists during his 17 league outings.
Asked about the youngster in his latest press conference ahead of Sunday’s clash against Leicester City at The Emirates – and the Gunners boss was full of praise for Martinelli, excited by his potential in an Arsenal shirt.
“He’s shown big signs of where he’s moving. His contribution all round in his game has been exceptional. He certainly has the capacity to score goals and be a threat. His contribution and all round game has been exceptional.”

Not just him, but the likes of Saka, Odegaard and Emile Smith-Rowe, too. What Arteta has developed since joining the club as manager is a freshness, a hunger among younger, talented players that is driving Arsenal forward.
But having Martinelli gives Arsenal a long-term option on the left flank. Odegaard gives the Gunners a no.10, or a no.8 for the foreseeable future and if Arsenal can keep Saka, a man on the right. Exciting times for Arsenal.
