Fabrizio Romano has said on The Arsenal Lounge that the Arsenal board are not planning to sack Mikel Arteta anytime soon, amid speculation linking the Gunners with Antonio Conte.

The well-known and well-respected journalist has said that the Arsenal hierarchy want Arteta to continue his work at the club and are not planning to sack him despite a disappointing start to the season.

Romano said on The Arsenal Lounge: “At the moment, I am told that the situation is still the same. They are with Arteta.

“Of course, disappointed because they were expecting something different from the start of the season, so the situation is not the best one, but they are with Arteta, they are planning with Arteta.

“They are doing things in the market because Arteta also wants to do these kinds of things.”

Antonio Conte rumour

Arsenal suffered a 2-0 defeat to Brentford in the Premier League last Friday.

It has sparked suggestions that the Gunners could sack Arteta soon if results do not improve.

ITA Sport Press have reported that Arsenal have former Chelsea and Inter Milan head coach Antonio Conte on their radar as a potential replacement for Arteta.

Sticking with Mikel Arteta

Arteta did not have a great season at Arsenal in 2020-21. The Gunners could not even finish in the Europa League places.

Not many Arsenal fans will be confident that the team will be able to end up in the Premier League top four this time around.

Football is a results business, and the Arsenal chiefs will want the team to win and show progress on the pitch.

It would be silly to even suggest that Arsenal will – or should – sack Arteta now – after just one match.

However, the Spaniard will have to make sure that his team win and continue to develop, improve and progress in the coming weeks and months.
