Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta plans to make David Raya his number one goalkeeper ahead of Aaron Ramsdale, according to a report.

Football Transfers have reported that Arsenal are keen on signing David Raya from London and Premier League rivals Brentford in the summer transfer window.

The Spain international goalkeeper has reportedly agreed personal terms with Arsenal.

The report has claimed that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta wants to bring in Raya as his number one goalkeeper, which will mean that Aaron Ramsdale will become the number two at the North London club.

“Make no mistake if David Raya is signed by Arsenal he will be brought in as the No.1 goalkeeper,” a source close to the deal told FootballTransfers. “It’s terrible news for Ramsdale.”

Ramsdale has been on the books of Arsenal since the summer of 2021 when he joined from Bournemouth for £24 million (Goal).

The England international goalkeeper signed a new deal with the Gunners only in May 2023.

Aaron Ramsdale could step up his game amid potential David Raya competition at Arsenal

In our opinion, Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale should back himself to keep his place in the starting lineup despite the potential arrival of David Raya.

After all, Ramsdale signed a new deal with Arsenal earlier this summer.

It shows that the Gunners have faith in him.

True, Raya is a very good goalkeeper who is brilliant with his feet, but it is hard to see Arteta not give Ramsdale a chance first.

Ramsdale is very likely to start the new season as the first-choice goalkeeper at Arsenal.

However, there will be pressure on the Englishman.

Ramsdale did make some mistakes last season, and he does need to cut them out.

The 25-year-old goalkeeper has made 147 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.

Ramsdale has kept 36 clean sheets in those games.
